The Antidepressant Diet: Understanding the Gut-Brain Axis in Mental Health

The Antidepressant Diet" explores the emerging field of Nutritional Psychiatry and the biological connection between gut health and emotional regulation. Utilizing a "Myth vs. Fact" framework, the project explains the role of the Vagus Nerve and the fact that 95% of serotonin is produced in the gastrointestinal tract. The goal of this work is to empower individuals with accessible, proactive strategies to support their mental health through neuro-protective nutrition. This project reinforces the idea that mental health care is a holistic, whole-body process.

Psychedilics reconsidered: Separating the science from the social media hype

This psychoeducational campaign was developed to address the growing public interest in psychedelic-assisted therapy. Following guidance from Dr. Ali (Khair Collective), I designed this series to bridge the gap between viral "wellness trends" and evidence-based safety. The project highlights the critical distinction between recreational use and controlled clinical environments, emphasizing the necessity of "Set and Setting." By simplifying complex topics like contraindications and the risks of self-medication, this project serves as a harm-reduction tool for a modern audience.

Research Project
Evidence-Based Frameworks for Community Behavioral Health Needs Assessments

How do we move from "guessing" what a community needs to providing documented, effective support? In this project, I examine the power of systematic community surveys to shape mental health programming. My research focuses on using CBPR to build trust and Islamic Psychology to ensure cultural relevance. The result is a framework that helps organizations like Khair Collective use data responsibly to secure funding and create long-term impact for the Al-Huda community.

Community Initiative
Community Survey Assessment

This project will focus on creating and sharing a community behavioral health needs assessment centered on mental health, resilience, and the lived impact of Islamophobia. Once approved by my supervisor and faculty, the survey will allow community members to share what support, education, and resources feel most needed. The goal is to use this feedback to guide future workshops and programming in a way that feels relevant, ethical, and grounded in real community experiences. This project reflects my growing interest in community-based mental health work, listening first, and using data to create meaningful and responsive education.
